Phosphorus is found as phosphate in protein-containing foods such as milk and dairy products, meat, beans, lentils, nuts, and also in cereals (whole grain products). However, the human body only absorbs phosphate compounds from plant sources very poorly.


Phosphorus (symbol P) is a mineral. Phosphorus is present in the body as phosphate and is the second most abundant mineral after calcium. Around 85% of the phosphorus in the body is found in the bones and teeth. The rest is found in DNA/RNA, blood, tissues and cell membranes.


Important structural component of bones and teeth, necessary for growth, maintenance and repair of tissues and cells, for building the genetic building blocks DNA and RNA and for energy production.
