Magnesium is a component of chlorophyll and is therefore present in high quantities in green leafy vegetables. Other sources are whole grain products, nuts (almonds and cashews), seeds (pumpkin) and fish (halibut and mackerel).

Magnesium (symbol Mg) is a mineral. About 50% of the total magnesium in the body is found in the bones and about 25% in the muscles.

Function:

Magnesium, along with calcium, is necessary for the formation of bones and teeth. It serves as a cofactor (auxiliary factor) for many enzymes that regulate multiple reactions in the body such as building proteins, muscle and nerve function, regulation of blood sugar and blood pressure. It is also needed for energy production and to build DNA and RNA.
